Englewood Wine and Spirits (formerly Oprandy's)

There's been a liquor store at 481 North Dean Street for a long time. Since April 2026 it's been Englewood Wine and Spirits, and it's a different kind of store.

Manager Mike Singh came to retail from a career in IT, handling VIP clients where white-glove service was the whole job. He runs the shop the same way. This is a place to walk in, browse, ask what he's excited about this week, and leave with something you didn't know you could find this close to home. The familiar names are all here. So are the bottles that take some hunting: Japanese whisky, mezcal, a curated craft beer wall with Other Half from Brooklyn, sake, and a growing non-alcoholic section covering beer, wine and spirits. Wine runs from everyday bottles to the serious stuff, with the site organized by region, varietal, and what you're pairing it with. Kegs, mixers, bar accessories and party supplies round it out, because the store's real product is the good time you're about to have with people you like.

Mike calls the other half of the job being the community therapist, a job he's honored to have. People open up to him, and he's the kind of person you can talk to. That matters more than it sounds. It's the difference between a store you stop at and a store you go to.

Online ordering, local delivery, in-store pickup, and an app for iOS and Android are all live. The store is open seven days: 10 to 9 Monday through Thursday, 10 to 10 Friday and Saturday, noon to 8 on Sunday.

The city has approved the new sign, so a grand opening is coming, planned as a back-to-school community day with food on the grill and supplies for local kids. And yes, the turtles are still here. Larry and Curly came with the building, have been in the store for some 30 years, and get a professional tank cleaning every two weeks. Stop by and say hello!
